Emergency Basketball Podcast – Donald Sterling, V. Stiviano (?) and the #Rtz!

In podcast #3, we call an emergency round table to talk about the Donald Sterling scandal as well as the Raptors playoff performance.

Raptors, Leafs & Blue Jays. Oh My!

In podcast #2, we talk to Andrew Stoeten of’s Drunk Jays Fans blog/podcast about your Toronto Blue Jays, the Ervin Santana melodrama and what – if anything – it says about Rogers’ ownership. We also talk about the value of the Jays media rights, as well as the surprises of the season so far. Then we do our silly “Cross Canada Round Table” with Justin in TO and Greg from Calgary, talking Leafs elimination, the best Raptors team ever(?) and more Jays.

What we got wrong(?)
We didn’t seem to get too much wrong today, but what we did get right was the speculation about Brendan Shanahan being inserted as Leafs Team President. One point that came up was the idea of whether organizational leadership can be brought in and expected to succeed, and we referenced a study regarding GMs and coaches in the NHL. For anyone interested, one article based on that research can be found here.

Blue Jays Season Preview

In our inaugural podcast, we talk to Drew Fairservice of about the Toronto Blue Jays offseason as well as their chances in 2014. Then we host a “Cross Canada Round Table” with Justin in TO and Greg from Calgary talking about the Jays.

What we got wrong
Did Theo Epstein play the game? Unknown, certainly not definite. And I will add the guys considered the top GMs in the sport right now – Billy Beane excepted – including Ben Cherington and Andrew Friedman, didn’t play much if any baseball outside of high school.

Colby Rasmus’ OBP was a meagre .289 in his disastrous ’12 season, however was a strong .338 last year.

Rajai Davis signed in Detroit for 2 yrs and $10M.

Greg’s feelings about Cecil having a rocky 2nd half were justified, he pitched 46 innings to the tune of a 1.94 ERA, a .173 BAA, and .971 WHIP in the first half, and in just 14 2nd half innings, his ERA ballooned to 5.65 ERA, a .281 BAA and a 1.535 WHIP.
